The 2nd day of 2010. A lovely Saturday evening. A cozy
carpeted living room. A sturdy coffee table in the centre. A board game on the
table. Scrabble.
It was the time of the evening when it’s dark enough for the stars to be visible and yet bright enough to not have to grope your way around the house without the lights on. Twilight.
The scrabble game was fun. There was fierce competition with a ‘heated exchange of words’. Victory was sweet..for the victor.
The ‘WAGER’ (also the first word of the game) was that if I won, my ‘companion’ would have to watch the movie Twilight with me. And as I watched Twilight for the umpteenth time, I decided to give it some space on my blog.
I am what the urban dictionary would call a ‘Twilighter’ -

I am a fan of The Twilight Saga and am equally crazy about the movies. Now, that is. At first, when I heard about this new rage ‘Twilight’, I was sceptical like most people. I had read a few things here and there about the book but did not give it a second thought.
Then, I got the opportunity of watching the movie ‘Twilight’. My boyfriend had the movie on his computer (no he didn’t download it. He never ever would) and so he passed it on to me in case I wanted to watch it (which he regrets to this day – quote unquote “Shift+Delete would have been a smarter decision.”). I was neither for nor against it, so I thought I’ll give it a shot. See what the movie is like.
And That is how it all started. I Loved the movie!
1. The non-conventional take on Vampires (Vegetarian Vampires who only drink animal blood and Don’t turn in to creepy bats)
2. A love story so enthralling with its innocence and chastity. (till book 3, FYI)
3. The self-sacrificing lover (Edward, sigh!) that you only read about in Books...like this.
4. Edward Cullen = Robert Pattinson (Sigh! Sigh!)
5. Robert Pattinson = Edward Cullen (Sigh! Sigh! Sigh!)
And I thought to myself, if the movie is so good, imagine how awesome the book must be?! I went out and purchased a copy of the book. My expectations were not left unmet. The book did turn out to be better than the movie with more attention to detail and some additional plots that the movie very elegantly left out without hampering the ‘Twilight’ experience.
I was, undoubtedly, hooked. I shared my reading material with my friends at work and found another Twilighter in the making. We both were reading the same twilight books and then decided to sort of read together and discuss. This made the experience even more fun! We oohed and aaahed at the vampires and the werewolves. (For the record, I am for Team Edward and my aforementioned friend is for Team Jacob – Twilight Speak) We were saddened and upset by Bella’s misfortunes. (Um..we actually don’t really care about her so much...not!) We loved her loves and felt her pain and rejoiced at her elation.
Then came the last book in the saga, Breaking Dawn. This is the book which ‘turned me’ in to a Twilighter. *SPOILER* Bella and Edwards marriage. The Honeymoon. The werewolves. Imprinting. The baby. The turning. The Volturi. The confrontation!*SPOILER*
I devoured the mammoth book in days. It was un-put-downable. I wanted to finish reading the book and yet I did not want it to get over! It was the best finale book I have read. Way better than Harry Potter. (Peace, HP lovers.)
So this was my little story about my journey from an indifferent audience to an ardent fan. All the twilight haters and all those who are at the ‘indifferent’ stage do give the movies or the books a chance. May be its your ‘turn’ to become a fan.
Nicely written...But not enough to turn me into a "Twilighter"...lol...One question Affy, "If they drink animal blood, how can they be vegetarian? i pity the animals...poor mute animals...lol...overall nicely written...loved reading it :)
ReplyDelete@Amod Thanks Amodayy. I still suggest u watch the movie with wifey. To answer ur question, they're vegetarian coz the normal diet is 'Human' blood. Thus drinking animal blood is like "..living on tofu and soy milk;"
ReplyDeleteI do not believe that you writing about Twilight and you did not mention the awesome Jacob. Well, now that you have blogged about Twilight let me also proudly proclaim my 'twilightness' to you!!!
ReplyDeleteFrak! My eyes get to see what my ears are tired of hearing...Now that everything you pretty much feel about Twilight is documented, I guess there won't be any more Twilight based arguments or drawing comparisons between the book/movie and real life then?...I’ll miss that...not!...actually I kinda would...it was fun...till you devolved into a hardcore 'Twilighter'....er....I’m kidding!
ReplyDeleteYour posts are nice. BIG FAN...I think you should write more often. Keep up the good job! Looking forward to your next post.
@Amod. Dude be careful about your comments. "But NOT ENOUGH to turn me into a 'Twilighter'" can so easily be misconstrued by her as an invitation to write another Twilight post :)
@KD...dude now u got me sacred, really scared...ya i know...she is more than capable of doing that...First it was Hitchhikers guide to galaxy and now Twilight...am afraid i might have given her new idea for her next blog
ReplyDelete@Jade Well I wrote about the more awesome of the two ;)
ReplyDelete@KD Thanks 'BIG FAN' :) But the discussions are not going to cease am afraid. I think I have already misconstrued Amod's comment :P
@Amod Yes you surely have given me another idea! :)
I am not a huge fan of either the film or the book when it comes to twilight. The fact of the matter is I guess to be bestowed by the honour of Twilighter seems to be of consequence to you. I have always loved the way you pen down your ideas and always are successful in getting your thought across.
ReplyDeleteVampires, Werewolves have been a part of the industry for some time now. There have been vegetarian Vampires earlier too. Brad Pitt for example in 'Interview with the Vampire'So the idea has been touched upon. Obviously with time and advancement in technology its got a new dimension.
Not much to say. Loved the piece.
@Amu thanksss Amy!! I'm glad you like wat I write :)
